The ideal cyberpunk reader should be someone like Bob Geldof, a kind of global media expert. Cyberpunk is a science fiction genre noted for its focus on "high tech and low life." It was this pervasive cultural coercion that cyberpunk kicked against, whether it was through books like Neuromancer, or kids getting dressed up like goths to go to their local nightclub. Where does cyberpunk go, now that we live in an age of smartphones that can make a cup of tea and people have their eyes lasered to see better? ???? I’m not so sure that people won’t have implants – at least for medical reasons.

The word “punk” holds more meaning than a hairdo or a ragged hem, but advertising’s plucked a lot of that meaning from it. I'm hard pressed to pick a single one to recommend, honestly. In ’80s America the Japanese megacorporations did dominate the technological market, but the cowboy’s freedom and ingenuity allow him to compete purely on the level of mastery.
